Revival of the legendary Maria Callas Gala and Awards in Monaco at Salle Empire of Hotel De Paris

The first annual Maria Callas Monaco Gala & Awards took place in the iconic Salle Empire Hall of the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, chaired by Ioanna Efthimiou, President, founder and famous painter. Glamorous guests, Prince Albert of Monaco first and foremost, as well as Garett Wittstock, Princess Charlene’s brother and General Secretary of the Princess Charlene Foundation, attended the event.


Τhe Gala was held under the Aegis of Prince Albert of Monaco, with the sponsorship of the Hellenic Community of Monaco, presided by Sofia Vlachari – Tsouvelekaki, and the Greek National Tourism Organization. The event was a revival of the first legendary Gala that took place in the Monte Carlo Opera in 1960, where the great Diva, Maria Callas, enchanted the audience in front of her close friends, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco and, of course, her great love, Aristotelis Onasis.

Big names were awarded such as the internationally renowned singer Nana Mouskouri, the Monegasque young pianist Stella Almondo, the well-known Greek soprano Elena Kelesidi, Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the pioneers in the field of international business, Vassilis and Nelli Katsos.

From the medical field, the Rector of the Kapodistrian University of Athens, Dr. Meletis Ath. Dimopoulos, Dr. Sotiris Tsiodras, Dr. Vassilis G. Apostolopoulos CEO of the Athens Medical Group and President of the Hellenic Entrepreneurs Association. Mr Athinagoras Andriadakis owner of Royal Marmin Bay Boutique & Art Hotels received the award for Tourism, Liana Skourli awarded for her struggle for the creation of the Maria Callas Museum in Athens, and the Elder of the Côte d’Azur and Monaco Michael Seliniotakis for his philanthropic work.

Fine dining of the highest standards ensued, by Chef Alain Ducasse.

An opera concert by the musicians Stella Almondo (piano), Alexis Gournel (piano), and Elena Kuszheleva (soprano), closed the Gala.

Iris Vlachoutsikou, Director of International Relations & Sports Diplomacy Peace & Sport, co-presented the event.
