Jenny Siachou – The multitalented politician, entrepreneur and educator
jenny Siachou is actively involved in her birthplace of Laconia. Monemvasia and Molaoi, the places of her childhood, are her secret paradise and she takes advantage every chance to talk about them, both in Greece and abroad. A dynamic entrepreneur and mother of two remarkable children, Dr. Ioannis Anastopoulos, a Machine Learning Engineer based in Los Angeles, and Evanthia as a Media Planning Manager based in London. She supports women’s entrepreneurship without allowing her place of residence to be an impediment. She is the longest-serving Secretary of the Commercial Association of Molaoi, Vice President of the Philanthropic Association of “Ladies and Misses” of Molaoi, and member of the Women’s Association “The Monemvasiotisses.” She grew up in a loving family setting. She ran in both the regional and parliamentary elections for New Democracy, and she continues to grow and positively affect her fellow citizens and everyone she knows.
Let’s start our interview with women’s entrepreneurship. How much progress has been made in Laconia, and how is it supported?
Laconia has successful women entrepreneurs in retail, tourism, and food processing. However, entrepreneurship remains male-dominated, mirroring the general ratio of male and female entrepreneurs. Women’s entrepreneurship is encouraged by European initiatives, from which women entrepreneurs seek funding, particularly in industries such as commerce and small to medium production units, with a focus on traditional products.
What is your personal experience through your family business?
Despite having studied Education at the University of Athens, I decided to take over our family’s 70-year-old business in Molaoi, COSMO Fashion. My decision was supported by studies in marketing and advertising in order to manage and improve the company’s operations. The retail sector of the clothing industry piques my interest due to its ongoing renewal, aesthetics, and new trends, which I enjoy following. At the same time, I am active in tourism, having established COSMO Luxury Rooms, in Monemvasia.
You are currently pursuing an MBA in financial management.
Yes. I am currently studying in the University of Peloponnese’s postgraduate degree in Administration and Financial Planning for Public and Private Sector Executives / Executive MBA in Financial Planning. I would say that I neither desire nor can stop learning and growing. Modern Greek economy presents a multitude of challenges with its ever increasing global outlook. I speak English and I also study other languages because I enjoy interacting with people of various cultures. I believe we should never stop pursuing new experiences and learning.
You are an active citizen who ran for office in both the Parliamentary and Regional elections.
Beyond my business endeavors, I decided to run for office in both the regional elections with Mr. Dimitris Ptohos, the elected regional governor of the Peloponnese, and the parliamentary elections with the New Democracy party. One more challenge. I strongly feel the obligation to share my expertise and experience with others, which was the reason behind my decision. I came in first place in my town, which gave me enormous satisfaction. My fellow citizens were aware of my capabilities and demonstrated their confidence in my candidacy. We still have a lot ahead of us to accomplish.
Monemvasia! If I asked you to give it a title, what would it be and why?
Monemvasia Rock is referred to be the “Gibraltar of the East”. I would keep this title. Our region has a great, mild climate and is lush and fertile. The Laconian Gulf surrounds it, and tourists can take advantage of its stunning, award-winning beaches and warm, turquoise waters. Also, we have the endings of the well-known Taygetos and Parnonas mountain. An amazing and diverse landscape offering a plethora of options for activities and alternative forms of tourism. We are known for our outstanding agricultural products, unique local cuisine, distinctive traditional architecture, monuments, landmarks, and archaeological sites. A paradise that you never get tired of.
What advice would you give to a visitor coming for the first time?
Since Monemvasia is the only inhabited castle in our country, visitors can enjoy a unique vacation experience. They can explore the cobblestone streets and have an incredible view of the Myrtoan Sea. They can also find unique beauty in neighboring places like Greece’s distinctive seashore fjord, Gerakas, and the Cave of Kastania. Not to be overlooked is the breathtaking Larnaca Gorge in the charming Molaoi district.
Thank you very much!
