25th International Robot Olympiad Competition in Athens, January 2024
Hellenic Sports Robotics Federation and Inteso organised the international event at Taekwondo stadium. The 25th International Robot Olympiad Competition (IRO), which hones the abilities of young athletes in Robotics, from all over the world, opened in Athens, on the 16th of January!
The event was held under the auspices of the Ministries of Education, Religion and Sports, Digital Governance, Finance, Tourism, Development, the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation, the Hellenic Tourism Organization, the Unesco-Institute for Lifelong Learning, and Lifeline Hellas. In this competition, 1,430 athletes in robotics, from 38 countries, including Korea, participated in 32 categories of 18 sports including artificial intelligence (AI) football, AI autonomous driving, and drones, and they showed off their skills.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of IROC Kim Jong-Hwan of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Hellenic Republic Jung Il LEE, the Beeho Ghun the ex-Ambassador of Mexico and Bulgaria and Vice President of Korean Council of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, Deputy Minister Konstantinos Kiranakis, Advisor to Minister of Sports, Maria Polyzou.
IRO has celebrated its 25th competition established in 1999 to promote the creativity of youth and promote the development of the robot industry. At the same time, the 1st official Panhellenic Sports Robotics® HRSF League championship was held by the EL.O.A.R.T./H.R.S.F.
The Closing Ceremony and the Awarding of medals were attended by the Minister of Sports Ioannis Vroutsis and opened by Alexandros Andrews, the grandson of Princess Katherine of Serbia, who composed the music for the lyrics of the Robotics Olympic Anthem.
