Angela Gerekou, President of Greek National Tourism Organisation, about the Greek Summer
«Each location in Greece -different adventure, each moment lived there- a unique experience!»
In the unpublished poems of Odysseus Elytis in partnership with the Greek French art critic, Stratis Eleftheriades, a great art collector, patron and publisher( he actually discovered the great Greek painter Theofilos), known as E. Teriade, and just like a narrating river of sand, the definition of a Greek summer unfolds… In a verse for the Greek summer, the great poet writes:
«Slowly, slowly in the heart of the summer the sunlight makes Greece disappear. Absorbs the islands, neutralises the seas and destroys the skies…
Nor can you see the mountains, nor the trees, nor the earth and waters…all have disappeared
Drank with the light- only a dark shadow-MAN. A shadow, which gets larger, disproportionally harboured by its own sacrifice
The resistance to such light: this is the deeper meaning of Greek architecture.
Within the transparency, even more transparent, brilliant white, The Parthenon, exonerates mystically its existence the moment when the Attica midday reaches its greatest strength and when only nymphs are floating in its blinding space».
However, many definitions, quotes, images we can give for the Greek summer, it’s never enough. One cannot ever dispute the Greek light. Through this beautiful light of ancient monuments, vivid blue waters, typical whitewashed buildings, the Cycladic islands, and so many more. Then autumn with its beautiful colours and winter scenery of white snow tipped mountains from North to South and mountain range island terrain- it makes every visit to our country a unique experience! That’s because our primary industry of Greece, is the civilization, the senses, the different tastes, the aesthetics, the music, the culture, the folklore, the participation-which individually and all together offer the experience of a 365 days travel in Greece. This is Greek Tourism.
