Maria Contos
Born a winner – she knows how to fight all given battles in her life and win them. She started her real estate career at the age of 24 in Athens. Today she is one of the best international real estate experts in luxury real estate worldwide. Maria Contos works at Sotheby’s International Realty, based in Washington D.C. Her clientele consists of presidents and CEOs of the largest multinational companies in the world, investors, and executives of international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the World Bank.
President of the National Society of Arts and Letters in Washington DC, author of a successful children’s book, long-distance runner, charity runner, and mother.
Her mentor was her grandfather, Stylianos Kyriakidis, National Hero of Greece, the athlete who won the Boston Marathon in 1946 to help our country, which was in a miserable state after World War II.
She grew up and lived in Greece, but Washington DC was always her second home, as she was the daughter of an American diplomat.
The turbulent last years in Greece led her to make the decision to move to the US with her daughters, Anastasia and Alexandra. She strode to triumph with hard work, discipline, and commitment. “When there are difficulties in our way we have to keep going and fight it with more strength and determination,” Maria says. “My grandfather learned more from losing a race than from winning.”
Maria followed on by saying, “never compromise with less than you deserve, be surrounded by people who challenge you, and push yourself how to become better. Always push yourself outside of your comfort zone!”
Maria Contos inspires us because she is a woman who acts with courage, overcomes fears, doesn’t compromise with anything less than what she deserves. She encourages all to embrace the challenges of life and evolves.
