A special model for Dementia and nursing care at “Aktios”
In Aktios and Aktios Alzheimer Unit located in Agia Paraskevi, Aktios Odigos in Vari, as well as Aktios Art Palace located in Maroussi, emphasize in hospitality services, nursing care as well as stroke and bone fracture rehabilitation and provide specialized services for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The facilities at Aktios, follow a dynamic model of operation, with frequent changes in decoration according to the season, many different activities and occupations, colors, light and music, in order to create a residence full of life. The aim is to make the elderly people experience a place of life and health, rather than conventional elderly care units.
The primary goal and management’s vision is to maintain a home environment and provide a quality care setting where residents and guests feel as safe and comfortable as they would feel at home, while at the same time they can enjoy the hospitality and specialized psycho geriatric services. Aktios employs specialized scientists and competent health professionals. The model of working with people that have dementia (Aktios Kindergarten Approach) is presented at conferences and educational programs. The staff is constantly recognized in their respective fields and Aktios facilities have become places for internships, education and the workplace for new scientists. This operational model is presented to specialized scientists from Europe, Brazil, Turkey, China and USA, who visit Aktios to witness its model first-hand.
The Chairman and CEO of Aktios Dr. Costis Prouskas, a Psychologist with a Master’s Degree in Psychological Assessment in Organisations and a doctorate in Gerontology, has extensive experience in the design, organisation and operation of residential, nursing and long term care units for elderly people and people with dementia and disabilities. The Director of Aktios Scientific Board is Dr. Paraskevi Sakka, Neurologist- Psychiatrist. Members in Advisory Board are among others: Dr. Michael Davidson, Chairman of the ‘’Alzheimer Disease Centre’’ and professor of Psychiatry Tel Aviv University, Dr. Shlomo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the internationally well-known “Sheba Rehabilitation Centre”, Dr. Kimon Volikas, Professor of Geriatrics of the Saint George’s University of London Medical School in the University of Lefkosia, Marina Polykarpou, Psychologist- Gerontologist and Director of Materia Group and Dr. Costis Prouskas, Psychologist- Gerontologist and Chief Executive Officer( CEO) of Aktios.
In 2010, Aktios became a member of the European Group MD-Nursing, which is specialized in establishing and organizing health centre for elderly people and elderly people suffering from dementia. At the same time, the partnership with Materia Group continues, which provides qualitative services of hospitality and nursing in Cyprus.
