Τhe inaugural event of the International Association of Friends of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, was held with formality and emotion, in the impressive Ηesperides Hall at the Numismatic Museum.
The Association’s aim to support the spiritual and charitable work of the Greek Orthodox Church in Great Britain, by carrying out social work to fellow human beings that are in need, with the blessings of Archbishop Nikitas.
“We may be expatriates, but our hearts beat to a Greek pulse and Greek blood flows in our veins” said His Eminence and added, “I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you better at the Archdiocese and in the church of Hagia Sophia, when you are in London but also all those who emigrated, in the difficult times of the last decade during the great crisis in Greece, to study, work and ended up staying in Great Britain. I have always said that Greece gives birth to heroes and saints and I hope that we will continue the work of the heroes and saints of our Church”.
The founding President of the International Association of Friends of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, Mr. George Papagiannopoulos, addressed His Emminance, the Archbishop Nikitas, saying:
“All of us will be by your side with common goals and actions to develop and support the Hellenic community in the United Kingdom, Hellenic ideals of education and arts and impart to our children and grandchildren Greek education and religious beliefs. For those of us that live in London or also live in London, this city is more Hellenic now, than any other time in the past. I would even say that all of us and the government should treat London as the third largest Greek city”.
