Eleftheria Prinou – Founder & President of Dr. Prinou: A Life Devoted to Beauty

In bustling Athens of the 1960s—when women rarely dared to dream beyond the stability of home—a young Greek woman returned from London with a suitcase filled with knowledge, ambition, and a vision: to transform the way Greek women related to their own image. Eleftheria Prinou—“Ria” to her friends—had trained under none other than Helena Rubinstein, one of the most iconic figures in global cosmetology. There she realized that beauty is not superficial; it is a force that transforms, that instills confidence, that liberates.

Today, at 80, Eleftheria Prinou continues to inspire. Not simply because she built an empire in aesthetics and anti-aging from scratch, but because she did it with principles, integrity, and faith in a brighter future for women.

From Butte Academy to the Heart of Athens

In 1966, at a time when the profession of the esthetician was still considered a luxury, Ria opened her first beauty institute in Athens. With almost no capital but boundless determination, she laid the foundations for what would later become one of the most recognizable names in the Greek beauty industry.

Her vision was both simple and radical: beauty belongs to everyone. Not just to the wealthy, not just to the young. It belongs to every woman who wishes to reclaim her relationship with her body, herself, and her time.

“It’s wonderful to grow older—but not to age.”

This phrase became her motto. Eleftheria Prinou did not want to simply offer beauty treatments; she wanted to cultivate confidence through care. To help women embrace time—not with fear, but with grace and wisdom. For her, self-care is not vanity, but an act of self-respect.

Choosing the Bright Side of Challenges

Of course, nothing came easily. Eleftheria Prinou had to overcome social stereotypes and fierce competition, yet she never wavered. Over the years she has been recognized as one of Greece’s most influential women entrepreneurs, though she takes equal pride in the daily trust and gratitude of her clients. Throughout her journey she has insisted: “Whatever I do, I do with dignity and integrity”—reminding us that the greatest achievement is simply “to remain human.”

Her example is not only entrepreneurial but deeply ethical.

A New Era: Dr Prinou

In 2015, alongside her daughter Alkistis—Dermatologist and Aesthetic Medicine specialist—she launched the Dr Prinou brand. It marked the natural evolution of her vision, now enriched by pioneering medical expertise, advanced technology, and personalized care.

Today, more than 20 modern centers across Greece, 550 employees, and countless loyal clients embody this success in numbers. Yet the true achievement lies elsewhere: in a timeless bond of trust spanning three generations. First Eleftheria, now Alkistis, and soon her grandchildren—Eleonora, Lydia, and Konstantinos—who pursue studies in Medicine and Management.

The Power of “You Can”

In a rare television interview, Eleftheria spoke movingly about her husband, Panagiotis Prinou:

“My husband and I have been together for 60 years.… He was a serious, responsible man. He helped me move forward with his words: ‘You can.’ That is so important.… He was progressive. That ‘you can’ is a tremendous source of strength”. Perhaps that phrase encapsulates her entire life: belief in possibility, devotion to vision, and the determination to create something big —something that changes lives.

Sixty Years dedicated to Beauty

At recent celebrations marking 60 years since the founding of Prinou Beauty Centers, Eleftheria Prinou appeared elegant, radiant, and full of gratitude. Accompanied by Alkistis, dazzling by her side, she thanked her employees and emphasized the importance of the group’s eco-conscious and digitally advanced facilities. Her message remains simple, human, and quietly revolutionary: “Beauty is an act of freedom. It is the right to choose how you stand in the world. And that right has no age.”

A Precious Legacy

Today, at 80, Eleftheria Prinou has nothing left to prove. She has already achieved something rarer than fame and success: a life of meaning.

The legacy of such a life—of a woman who rewrote the rules and changed the narrative—remains a priceless inheritance for the generations to come. A world a little more beautiful, a little more hopeful, and, above all, more human.
