Panagia Paraportiani

Paraportiani is one of the most recognizable churches in Greece. It combines a large number of architectural styles in a single building. Its construction started in the late 14th century and was completed in the 17th century and is a composition of five interconnected churches.

The monastery is located in Ano Mera. It is known for its classical Cycladic architecture dating to the late 18th century. It owes its name to the homonymous neighboring hill “Paliokastro”, which is crowned by a medieval castle. One can see, among other things, in the same area the church of Agios Vlasis, with its large dovecote.

Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary

It is the only catholic church on the island, in the square of Alefkandra. The homonymous icon of the Virgin Mary is located above the Holy Altar, where the Virgin holding the baby is depicted, and around her is Saint Dominic, the Apostle of the Piety of Saint. Rosary, and Saint Catherine of Siena. Texts that have been found state that this icon was transferred in 1715 from Venice to Mykonos.
