The significant Greek artist Sotiris Sorogas was born in 1936. An artistic talent already being shown from a young age, brought him to the path of studying art. He entered the School of Fine Arts in Athens, studying close to the well-known teacher Moralis. After acquiring his diploma, he started presenting a series of solo exhibitions with participation in great group shows, in Greece and abroad. After this successful period he became Professor of Fine Arts in Athens. Later on, he was awarded by the Academy of Athens for his overall contribution to art. In 2018, the President of Democracy awarded him the Medal of Grand Commander of Order of Honour. Today, he has the position of Professor Emeritos and his famous works of art are housed in significant museums and art galleries, private collections in Greece, Europe and in America.
Sotiris Sorogas is distinguished as a charismatic intellectual and an important artist with a meditative mood and is a deep thinker of life. In his paintings he registers his own version of light with unique suppleness of shapes. His works of art are under the category of the imitative arts defining light as a characteristic element which is revealed through his works, travelling us into a mystical world through the energetic rendering of decay-thus unwinding the meaning of transformation of things.
The precise and delicate drawings, the stimulating outlines with black and white application and mystical colourlessness fantastically defines the vibrant light.
Sorogas expresses himself artistically with the unique emotive movements of shapes in his themes, approaching space and time and their relationship. The paintings have a surrealistic mood in registering the spirit of the object which has decayed.There is an indication of solitude which glides into eternity in an expressive poetic way. This does prove that Sotiris Sorogas is a teacher and observer of the philosophy of life.
